Intermediário is a two-part project, featuring an architectural intervention and a series of posters distributed and posted throughout Ponta Delgada. Through signage, and by proposing a fictional social and cultural space, Clintberg proposes new queer legacies and futurities for a particular site: the Teatro Micaelense, one of the cultural centres of São Miguel. The term intermediário evokes a space of intermediation and brokering of culture, commodity, and identity. To be an intermediary is also to be in between, which is in parallel to the Azores’ geographic situation “in-between” two continents; similarly, queer theory calls for a re-evaluation of binaries and an exploration of in-between and ambiguous states.
