Ephemeral Volume 3

Roberto Ciredz represents one of the most intriguing interpreters of Italian urban art, an artist who consciously chose to abandon a figurative depiction to embrace the development of simple forms and abstract elements. His work has its roots in the personal and peculiar visual research that the artist keeps pursuing through a chromatic approach, from the grey scale of his early works to his characteristic blue and most recently the use of a range of colour temperatures.

Directly inspired by topographical maps, Ciredz plays with colour, light and shadow to reinforce the effect of materiality. His work moves between the representation of natural shapes and the abstract imagery of graphs and linear diagrams, simultaneously exploiting natural and artificial forms, blending colours and its deep shades emphasizing the sense of three-dimensionality.

Ephemeral Volume 3 is part of Ciredz’s recent series inspired by northern landscapes and ever-changing glaciers. The mural is a succession of coloured stripes that create the illusion of solids and negative spaces excavating the surface of the wall: representing what appear to be undulations, waves or gorges leading to a glacier crevasse.
